Wa State Hands Over 32 More Illegal Entrants to China, 1,449 So Far This Year On October 5, the United Wa State Army (UWSA) reported that 32 Chinese citizens who had illegally entered Wa State territory voluntarily registered to return home and have now been handed over to Chinese police at a China-Myanmar border crossing. Earlier, 46 Chinese citizens who had entered illegally were handed over to China on September 30, and another 63 Chinese nationals suspected of involvement in telecom fraud were handed over on September 22. According to UWSA statistics, a total of 1,449 illegal Chinese entrants have been repatriated so far in 2026; from 2020 to 2026, a cumulative total of 88,904 people have been handed over. Wa State currently still keeps open a registration channel for Chinese citizens without legal documents to return home; after registering, they are escorted by staff to the border and handed over to Chinese police. At the same time, it requires that future entrants complete the relevant procedures in accordance with the law.

Since Wa State still has a registration channel open for Chinese citizens without legal documents to return home, those stranded there without papers should register as soon as possible. Don't try to cross the border on your own through small paths—you could easily be treated as an illegal border crosser or get caught up in other trouble. If family members know their relatives are in Wa State, they can also contact the local registration point first to find out exactly what documents are needed, rather than just waiting.
