If the French Want to Keep Enjoying Life, They Might as Well Sell Some Assets

As a long-established capitalist country, France still has deeper pockets than countries like Greece—there are plenty of assets on the books.
Since the French want it both ways—they don't want to tighten their belts, they don't want to work more, and they still want to keep their welfare system—they might as well sell off some assets on the books. For example, sell France's overseas islands. And stop calling it French Bora Bora—just sell it to the US and call it US Bora Bora. Then everyone can get a green card without needing a visa.

If it really comes down to selling off overseas territories, negotiations, referendums, and transition arrangements would take years even in the best case—and how to value the assets and account for market discounts during that period would probably become a sticking point before the question of whether to sell even arises.
