Are there bug eggs on Whole Foods vegetables?

Not sure if there were little bugs on the vegetables or fruit from Whole Foods, because I can't remember clearly either.. It seems like one day I got a sudden urge to make some dinner, didn't clean up the cut vegetables, and the next day I saw little flying bugs.

And I can't even kill them.

Did you wash the vegetables before chopping them, or did they sit out overnight after being cut?

If you suspect they came home on your vegetables, don't jump to the conclusion that they're insect eggs. Small flying insects can also be attracted by food scraps or fruit peels. It's best to separate the leafy greens you just bought, rinse each leaf under running water, then soak them for a few minutes in mild salt water or baking soda water, drain well, and store in the fridge. Storage and transport conditions vary from region to region, and organic produce has more restrictions on pest control, so it's best not to skip the washing step after bringing them home.
