Aeroplan Expiration Policy Not Extended This Year? Will Accounts Inactive for Over 18 Months Be Zeroed Out on 11/30?

My Aeroplan account has had no activity for over 18 months. I remember Air Canada had been suspending the 18-month expiration rule, extending it once every year.

Two questions:

It seems there's no announcement yet this year about continuing the extension? When were these announced in the past?

If the policy is no longer extended, will accounts like mine that are already past due be zeroed out directly after 11/30?

Air Canada's website policies are applied uniformly to all members and are unlikely to vary by region. That said, expiration dates may differ slightly between accounts, so it's worth keeping an eye on.

If you really wait until your balance hits zero before taking action, rebuilding your miles and requalifying for status won't come cheap—it's far more cost-effective to deal with it early.

You mentioned that it used to be extended once every year, so the key factor is really the timing of the announcement, not the date of 11/30 itself. If this year's announcement is slow to come out, that suggests the policy may indeed be tightening, so I'd suggest not pinning all your hopes on an extension.

I actually don't think they'll necessarily zero everything out across the board. In the past, Air Canada has usually given some kind of buffer when handling existing miles, so the possibility of an outright reset to zero needs further confirmation.

Is there a link to an official announcement or a customer service reply I can check against?

The key question is whether the basis for the 18-month rule suspension still holds. If the suspension expires without being renewed, accounts that exceed the limit do indeed risk being cleared. But the boundary lies in the timing of the announcement versus the effective date—there is often a window between the two.

First log in to your account and check your recent qualifying activity records, then call customer service to confirm the specific processing timeline for accounts like yours that are past due—don't just wait for an announcement.
