Best Western Rewards to Merge Into WorldHotels Rewards

With BWH Group's acquisition of WorldHotels and the group's overall rebranding, BW's loyalty program will also merge into WorldHotels Rewards starting January 5 next year. For now, there don't appear to be any major changes: all existing BW Rewards points will be transferred and will continue to never expire, while perks such as the member rate and pay with points will remain unchanged. The only change is that BW's original five tiers (Blue, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Diamond Select) will be streamlined into three, and existing elite members will be matched to the new tiers (although BWH has not yet announced what the new tiers are).

Timeline:

11/16/26 New WorldHotels Rewards tier names and criteria announced

12/14/26 Holders of top-tier legacy BW Rewards status will be matched to the new tiers

1/5/27 New WorldHotels Rewards officially launches; the Best Western Rewards Visa Signature and Best Western Rewards Premium Visa Signature credit cards will be renamed at the same time

Right now all we have is the merged framework—there's still no word on what the three new levels will be called or how promotion criteria will be set. It's better to wait until the rules are officially announced in mid-November before making any judgments; don't rush to assume new benefits based on the old levels.

The real changes won't become apparent until after January. Points and existing benefits will remain unchanged for now, so the impact on frequent flyers will be limited in the short term.

I'm more concerned about how existing high-tier cards will be matched. There was already a sizable gap between Diamond Select and Diamond, and now that it's been compressed into three tiers, will upper-tier members end up crammed into the same level? On top of that, BW hotel density varies a lot by region—the same tier may be practically useless in remote areas.

If you have points nearing expiry or a credit card annual fee coming up, don't rush to make any changes—wait until the December matching rules and the January new program details are released. This assumes you don't have an immediate need for a hotel stay; otherwise, it's safer to use them as originally planned.

It's also worth noting the credit card name change upon synchronization—the card design and benefit terms may be adjusted accordingly.
