Thai Police Arrest Two Members of Chinese Scam Gang, Seize 2.5 Million Baht in Illicit Funds Thailand's Metropolitan Police Bureau Division 1, together with Pathum Thani provincial police and other agencies, cracked a telecom fraud case targeting Thai students today. Police successfully arrested a 25-year-old suspect surnamed Xie and a 40-year-old Chinese national suspect Chen Lelai, seizing 1.2 million baht in cash and freezing 1.3 million baht in bank accounts. The case began on October 3, when a 19-year-old university student was tricked into going to a bank to withdraw money. Bank staff noticed something suspicious and called the police. Police then set up a stakeout and arrested the two suspects—responsible for meeting the victim and transferring the funds—at a shopping mall parking lot in Rangsit and in Bangkok's Huai Khwang district. The two have now been charged in accordance with the law, and the funds involved will be returned to the victim.
