The terms say gift cards are excluded—not sure whether it'll actually reimburse in practice. Haven't gotten a Lowe's offer in a long time.

If you want to try it, start with a small purchase of non-gift-card items and keep the receipt. Once you've confirmed the cashback has posted, then consider other spending—as long as it doesn't interfere with your normal card usage record.
Are you asking about when the cashback gets credited, or when the system directly determines eligibility? Those are two different things.
