Does WeChat (not Weixin) no longer require identity verification for credit card payments?

Does WeChat (not Weixin) no longer require identity verification when paying with a credit card? My old passport has expired, and WeChat hasn't asked me to update it.

It seems Tencent's Tenpaygo doesn't require identity verification either? Thanks for any guidance.

When you actually made the payment, did the charge go through on your credit card directly, or did a page pop up midway asking for additional identity information? That detail is pretty important.

It's worth noting that old passports expire—after getting a new one, it's best to proactively update your information.

You can try a small transaction first to see if it triggers verification, but don't treat "no requirement for now" as a long-term rule; payment limits, card type, and recipient type can all affect whether you need to complete identity verification, and having to do it after you've actually hit a limit is usually more of a hassle.

It may save you some hassle in the short term, but when it comes to refunds, disputed transactions, or account issues, things get much harder to resolve without valid identity verification on file.

Is it possible that risk control just hasn't gotten around to the random check yet, rather than the rules actually being relaxed?

Regarding your point that TenpayGo doesn't require real-name verification, it would be best to double-check whether it actually uses the same account system as regular WeChat Pay, and whether there are differences in transaction limits and supported payment-collection scenarios. Policies across different channels aren't updated in sync, so a single successful payment doesn't tell you much.
