New Idea for Chase DD?

Chase's own credit cards trigger an automatic refund when there's a negative balance for a month or two, and by default it's sent as an electronic bank transfer. From what I remember, this should count as a DD. p4 recently opened Chase's checking+saving $900 offer. Figured I'd give it a try and update with a DP later.

Note: Once you get the email about the balance refund, make sure to click accept as soon as possible. Last time I saw it and thought I'd deal with it later, then forgot, and after a day it expired and I had to wait for a check.

Whether this approach works hinges on how long the electronic transfer takes to land. If it drags on for a week or two, the window for hitting the card's spending requirement gets tight, so it's best to work out the deadline before you start.

First, check whether the category shown for that transfer in your account actually counts as a direct deposit—don't just assume it's a DD because the name looks like one.

The acceptance link in the email is time-sensitive, and it's easy to forget when you're busy. But once the automatic balance refund lands, the bank-side transaction description may not look the same as a regular payroll direct deposit. It's best to check the offer terms' definition of DD in advance—otherwise the money gets refunded, the task doesn't count, and all that effort is wasted.
