Warm and Fuzzy Upgrade: Rakuten's BofA Credit Card Cash Back Now Pays Cash Only, Shows 0 When Account Is Set to Bilt

Frequent Miler, InsideFlyer, and DoC have all confirmed that Rakuten now pays cash back only for BofA cards, so Travel Rewards and Unlimited Cash can no longer be converted into Bilt points.

Every cloud has a silver lining—could this mean Bilt points won't be devalued in the short term?

The fact that it's cash-back only is pretty important—it means using a BofA card through Rakuten is now completely decoupled from Bilt points, so the old strategy of transferring points via Travel Rewards is effectively over.

I'd like to follow up: if my account is already set to Bilt but shows 0, then if I switch back to cash back, will the cash back I've accumulated so far be settled at the original tier, or will it follow the new rules starting from the moment I switch? This directly affects whether I should go change the setting now.

If you don't need to use your points right away, hold off on changing your account settings—wait a billing cycle or two until things are clearer before you make any moves.
