Sharing a neat Muse trick: automatically redeeming Uber / DoorDash gift cards bought from Costco

Recently I found a pretty practical use for Muse, so I'm sharing it with friends who also order takeout often, haha.

I'm a heavy takeout user, and basically every 15 days I buy a $200 Uber / DoorDash gift card from Costco.

Before, every time after buying one, I had to go find the email Costco sent in my inbox, copy the gift card code, then open Uber / DoorDash and redeem it manually. It only took a few minutes each time, but I always found the process pretty tedious, especially when I buy them frequently.

Recently I had a sudden idea and tried letting Muse handle this process for me automatically:

Have Muse check the inbox for the gift card emails from Costco

Automatically recognize and extract the gift card code from the email

Go redeem it in my Uber / DoorDash account

And it actually works! From now on, after buying a gift card, I basically don't need to find the email and copy-paste the card number myself anymore. I feel this is where Muse is genuinely useful—it's not some complex task, but being able to automate this repetitive, trivial operation is pretty satisfying.

Some states may not allow automatic gift card redemption, so it's best to check your local regulations.

Sounds convenient, but finding the card number in an email isn't the hard part—the real question is whether Muse can reliably recognize all the different email formats. If Costco changes its email template, it could stop working.

Just a heads-up: automatic gift card redemption involves account security. If Muse needs to log in to your email and food delivery accounts, it's best to use two-factor authentication and check your redemption history regularly. Also, once a gift card is redeemed, it can be hard to recover if your email gets compromised, so I'd suggest only acting on emails you've confirmed yourself.

Can it automatically detect card numbers in emails, and can it still handle card codes that come as images?

The key benefit is eliminating the repetitive work of copy-pasting, but the value depends on how often you do it and how reliable it is. If you only buy once or twice a month, doing it manually isn't much trouble; if you buy frequently, automation is what pays off. Later we can discuss which email providers and food delivery platforms Muse supports, and how it notifies you when something fails.
