Ordering from the same restaurant on different delivery apps gets you different stuff.

End of the month again, time to hustle through a round of Uber and DoorDash credits. Same Chinese restaurant's lunch special: the Uber order came with a soup, the DoorDash order didn't. The thing is, the price was exactly the same. What the hell.

This kind of thing is pretty common on food delivery platforms, and whether the menu explicitly says soup is included makes all the difference. Some restaurants upload different menu versions to different platforms, or adjust their combo contents by platform themselves—and even on the same platform, things can vary by region or time of day. Next time you order, it's best to ask in the notes rather than assuming the configuration is the same just because the price is.

Is this difference clearly stated on the order details or menu page? If you could add the menu descriptions from both sides and the order time, it might be easier to determine whether this is a platform configuration issue or a temporary adjustment by the restaurant.

I was already trying to cut back at the end of the month, so missing out on a soup does feel like a bit of a loss. It's not a big amount, but it still leaves a bad taste.

I'm inclined to think this isn't a case of the platform shipping orders at random, but rather that the seller maintains different set meal information on the two platforms, or that the menu on one of the platforms wasn't updated in time. The same price doesn't necessarily mean the same configuration—the key is whether the menu explicitly states that soup is included. Otherwise, it's hard to say who's in the right.

Did you ever reach out to the seller or the platform's customer service to ask why? I'd like to hear how they explain the discrepancy.

Next time you order, take a screenshot of the menu for your records—if there's ever a discrepancy, it'll make things easier to sort out.

But honestly, chasing down a difference of just a few bucks isn't cheap either. The platform and the restaurant will just pass the buck to each other, and customer service will probably only offer a coupon as compensation—spending time going back and forth may not be worth it. Unless you order from this place often, I'd rather just switch to a set meal that clearly states it includes soup, so you don't have to guess every time.
