I'm going back to China soon and was thinking of bringing a Starlink Mini with me to use as a model/toy — it looks really cool. Can anyone here advise whether it's okay to bring one into the country?

I'm skeptical of the claim that it can simply be brought in as a model. The device itself has RF and positioning capabilities, so customs or security may not treat it like an ordinary model, and there's a fair chance you'll be asked to explain its purpose after entry. For edge cases, it's best to prepare for the worst-case scenario.
"Model toy" might be hard to explain at security screening—you'd better think through how you'll describe it.
Beyond the entry process, you should also consider whether the information may change later. Customs regulations, airline restrictions on battery-powered devices, and Starlink's own policies in different regions can all be adjusted at any time, so it's safer to verify everything again one or two weeks before departure. It's also a good idea to check official channels directly or ask the airline you're flying with rather than relying only on forum posts from years ago, since both device models and regulations keep changing.
Before you leave, it's best to check whether your home country's customs has clear declaration and entry restrictions for satellite communication equipment—don't just take the internet's word that you can bring it and risk it. If you do bring it as a demo unit, try not to open the original packaging or manuals so you can prove it's an unused sample, and keep your purchase receipts. If it gets held up, you could lose both time and shipping costs, so weigh for yourself whether it's worth it.
