This offer existed before, but you had to contact customer service to enroll; now it seems you can do it yourself.

Note: funds are locked for 14 months! (12 months + 60 days), and people on the forum say this company has a bad reputation?

You can also take this screenshot to Schwab for a Match: 12-month lock + 45 days, plus buying a $5x12 subscription.

The key issue is still the 14-month lock-up period—the bonus is big, but it significantly reduces your liquidity.

I'm not entirely convinced by the claim that it has a bad reputation. A broker's reputation often comes down to individual customer service experiences—some people run into slow transfers or hassle with account closures, while others use it without any issues. It's better to look at recent feedback on deposits, withdrawals, and account reviews rather than dismissing it based on a vague, general assessment.

If you're sure you won't need this money for 14 months, it's worth a try—but first work out the balance tier you'll need to maintain to earn the full bonus, and don't lock up your emergency fund just to chase a higher reward.

Actually, it's worth comparing the lock-up periods and reward tiers across a few brokerages, then calculating the annualized return before deciding.

After DIY enrollment, is the reward tier based on the initial deposit amount or on cumulative net deposits over 14 months? Also, do stock transfers out or partial withdrawals affect the bonus? The main text doesn't mention this, so it may need to be confirmed in the terms and conditions.

Will the state tax treatment in different states affect the actual take-home amount of this bonus?

The real catch is if you need to touch that money during those 14 months—withdrawing early could claw back the bonus.
