First off, you need a company email. I haven't tried an edu one, but it might work too.

I've been wanting to replace the Hisense in the kitchen (currently the most-used TV in the whole house), and wouldn't you know it, the deals showed up.

The 55-inch is $100 cheaper than elsewhere, and stacking the BF10 discount code takes another 10% off.

And so the Black Friday shopping spree has fired its first shot.

I'll make my move tomorrow while the wife and kid are out. I'm just curious how long it'll take my wife to notice I secretly swapped out the TV.

A lot of people get stuck at the company email step—whether an edu address works really depends on trying it first.

The real value isn't in the hundred off the list price—it's that the BF10 stacks with an extra 10% off, and being able to use both discounts together is what matters. That said, it usually also means limited stock and fewer model options.

First, check the discount code's expiration date—don't wait until the last day and risk the item selling out.

Switching TVs also means figuring out what to do with the old one. The Hisense gets a lot of use, so it's best to decide where it'll go before you move it out.

I actually don't think swapping it out behind their back is such a good idea. The TV is the most-used thing in the house—once it's replaced, the interface, the remote, and where it sits will all change, so they're bound to notice sooner or later. And if the model or size you bring home isn't right, the cost of returns and installation could be more of a hassle than the discount is worth. Better to give them a heads-up and pick it out together.
