Company is about to ban WeChat — what's the best practice for buying an iPhone + phone line?

I've basically ignored this section before, and I don't like dealing with carriers either.

Recently my company said WeChat can't be used on company phones anymore, so I need to buy a new phone quickly — probably around an iP18P / PM. P2 also happens to want a new phone.

What are the best tricks and best practices here?

Company devices are locked down—does installing WeChat on a personal device also fall under MDM control? That's something we need to confirm first.

Before buying a new phone, figure out one thing first: is the company banning WeChat on the device, or blocking network access to it? If it's the former, you can just use it on a personal phone without installing the company profile—no need to rush into a new device. But if the company network directly blocks WeChat's protocols, then even a new phone won't help on company Wi-Fi; you'd have to rely on cellular data. So the key isn't the phone model—it's the exact scope of your company IT's restrictions. Best to ask about the policy details before you place an order.

If you're switching the P2 as well, you might consider adding a line to a family plan—it's more cost-effective than opening a separate new number, but be sure to check the contract term and roaming terms.

When using dual SIMs, pay attention to which card is set as the primary data SIM—don't let the company SIM card use data in the background and trigger a compliance review.
