Is the Flying Boy bi? 🌈

This blogger keeps getting pushed to me. My gaydar's been going off for a while. A long time ago he went to Japan and had a devlog with a male fan—very gay. But then he has a girlfriend, so it's like, not that feeling. Now that he's lost weight, my gaydar is going off again.

The key thing is, I've never followed him, but he keeps getting recommended to me. Should I trust the recommendation algorithm?

If you're just curious, don't rush to judgment—treat the push notification as a reference. But if you end up spending a lot of time digging through old videos for clues, that's not a worthwhile cost—unless you already watch this kind of content anyway.

Is the recommendation mechanism actually driven by engagement, or by similar users? These two explanations point in rather different directions.

I actually don't think that part of the Japanese devlog necessarily proves anything—many bloggers naturally act more relaxed when interacting with fans. Having a girlfriend doesn't mean someone's orientation is limited to one thing either. Relying on the fact that he lost weight and your gaydar went off feels more like a subjective impression; putting a few details together like that makes it easy to overinterpret things.

Speculating about someone's sexual orientation can easily drag their privacy into it, and naming names and analyzing them in a public comment section is risky; it's fine to wonder about it privately, but don't go to their account to press them or stir things up.

One more thing: the content the platform pushes to you doesn't necessarily reflect his own tags—it may just be that you've been looking at similar topics recently.

The most noteworthy thing here is the “never followed them, yet they keep getting recommended” phenomenon—but it doesn’t actually tell you anything about the blogger’s orientation. It only reflects that the algorithm thinks you may have paused on their content. To verify, you’d need to see whether they themselves have made an explicit statement or posted any follow-up updates. Inferring from old videos and changes in body shape alone draws on far too thin a source of information.

Different places have very different standards for how much public figures' private lives are discussed. Chinese-speaking communities and English-language platforms may react in completely different ways, so the tone of the comments you see doesn't necessarily represent how most people feel.
