Caring for an elderly person and simply driving them around are actually two different things. When an emergency comes up, you need to be able to judge whether they should be taken to the hospital and who to contact. It's best to spell out these boundaries of responsibility in advance, so that if something does happen, there's no confusion about who's accountable.

Roughly what hours each day, Monday through Friday? And when the elderly person is resting, is the driver considered on standby or free to do as they please?

Manhattan's one-way streets and parking really put you to the test, but every driver knows different areas—traffic conditions vary a lot between the Upper West Side and Midtown and Downtown. Also, keep an eye on legal status: different work permit types have a big impact on taxes and long-term employment, so employers should first confirm whether they can pay you on the books properly, otherwise both sides are taking on risk.
