Did I Mess Up the Transmission Fluid Change?

I just had someone change the transmission fluid on my Mazda 3. Over the past few days, during several long drives, the center console shift area and cupholder panel have been getting noticeably hot, and there's an abnormal jerking when starting off at low speed. My initial guess is that this could be caused by overfilling the transmission fluid, which raises internal line pressure and in turn affects heat dissipation.

The mechanic who changed my transmission fluid did it the traditional way—draining out a certain amount and adding back the same amount. But Mazda officially specifies that for Skyactiv, the transmission fluid level must be precisely checked with the fluid at 50°C and the engine running, to ensure it's at the specified level.

I didn't fully understand these details the first time I had the transmission fluid changed. Has anyone dealt with a situation like this before?
