Hey everyone, I applied for the Amex Gold over the phone last Friday and was told it would ship via USPS First Mail. As of Wednesday night ET, it still hasn't shipped. Wondering if anyone has had a similar experience? How long does it actually take...

You can wait another two or three days. If the annual fee still hasn't been charged to the card or the status hasn't changed, call customer service to confirm whether the card has actually been sent out, and while you're at it, ask if you can switch to expedited shipping. Keep in mind, though, that changing the shipping method sometimes means the card has to be reissued, which can actually take longer—so this only makes sense if you don't need the card urgently.
I'd like to confirm—did they give you an estimated delivery time or a reference number over the phone?
Some cards do sit for a few days between approval and being mailed out.
Just saying "it hasn't shipped" isn't quite enough—it's best to check whether the card status in online banking shows approved or shipped, or whether you've received an email notification from Amex. If it's only a customer service rep saying over the phone that it was sent, that's a different matter from what the system shows, so it's best to follow up once more to confirm.
First, log in to your account and check if there's a temporary card number. If you can add it to mobile payments, use that as a stopgap.
When you called customer service, did they mention the specific date it was handed over to USPS?
Without a tracking number, USPS First-Class Mail is basically untraceable.
