Help: Is my LAX layover long enough?

US–China — LAX — ICN Through ticket, first leg Alaska, second leg Korean Air, layover 1 hour 38 minutes, two checked bags, need to get from LAX T6 to TB Questions: OP has never seen a through ticket that requires re-checking bags, but Fliggy notes that bags need to be re-checked — is Fliggy tripping? I heard Korean Air and Alaska have partially ended their partnership — would that turn a through ticket that normally has bags checked through into one where they aren't? Worst case, even if bags really do need to be re-checked, is there any chance you just grab your bags and toss them onto a conveyor belt in the connecting flight corridor, instead of dragging them to another terminal? This is pretty much OP's only flight option — any forum members with experience, thanks in advance

Since Fliggy notes that you need to recheck your bags, it's best to call both Alaska and Korean Air customer service directly to confirm, because OTA alerts sometimes reflect general rules and may not match the specific baggage agreement for your ticket. Also, walking from T6 to TB plus going through security in just over an hour and a half is pretty tight with two checked bags, so it would be safer to check whether there's a shuttle or transfer bus between the two terminals that day.

In theory, whether baggage is checked through on a connecting ticket is determined by the agreement between the carriers, and has little to do with which platform you bought it from. If the two airlines have indeed partially terminated their cooperation, what's affected is whether through-checking is possible, not whether the ticket itself is a connecting ticket—these are two separate matters.

First, check how the baggage section is written on your flight itinerary; the airline's system is the final authority.

The key is really whether the two airlines currently have a through-check baggage agreement, not what Fliggy says. If the agreement is still in place, a connecting ticket can usually be checked through from your origin to ICN, so you wouldn't need to worry about the T6-to-TB segment. But if the agreement has been terminated, then with 1 hour and 38 minutes you'd need to collect your bags, change terminals, re-check them, and go through security again—it would be nearly impossible to make it, especially with two suitcases. So first confirm the status of the agreement, then decide whether to rebook or choose an earlier first leg.
