No Extended Warranty on the Citi AA Platinum Select opened in 2023?

The hair dryer I bought when I opened the card just broke. After a lot of effort, I finally tracked down the card number from back then. When I was about to file a claim through Mastercard Insurances & Services, the rep actually told me there's no such benefit. I could've sworn there was. How do I file a claim in this situation? update: Turns out Citi AA and Custom Cash use different companies to handle Extended Warranty. No wonder Mastercard Insurances & Services couldn't find my purchase info.

The key is to find the right vendor first, otherwise you'll just end up wasting time on customer service calls.

You mentioned in your update that Citi AA and Custom Cash use different vendors—could that also be related to the year the card was opened? I'd suggest first checking that year's benefits guide for the card, or just ask Citi customer service directly to confirm which company handles the Extended Warranty, then use your card number to file a claim on the corresponding platform. Don't keep going in circles with Mastercard.

Small appliances like hair dryers tend to develop problems after just a year or two, and if you actually need to file a claim, a mismatch between your purchase receipt and the card number can hold things up for a long time.

Could it be that there actually is a benefit, but you're just filing the claim through the wrong channel?

I don't think we can jump to conclusions just based on it being a different vendor. Citi's benefits terms may have changed across different card types and different years, and the Extended Warranty on the AA Platinum Select may also have effective-date or purchase-category restrictions. It's best to first dig up the terms from when you opened the card that year to confirm the coverage, and then decide whether it's worth continuing to go back and forth with Mastercard—otherwise you might just be wasting your time.
