AC US-Canada Award Ticket Booked via AV: Does It Include a Carry-On?

As the title says, I booked a YUL-LGA economy ticket using AV. On Air Canada's official website, I can't see whether a carry-on is included. When I called customer service, they also couldn't tell whether this ticket is a standard award or a basic award—they could only see it's a redemption in X class, and told me to confirm with AV. AV's side only says there's 1 personal item, and when I click into the baggage details, it throws an error. I can select a seat for free on this ticket, so it doesn't seem like a basic fare.

I wanted to ask if anyone has had a similar dp before? Does a ticket like this include a carry-on? Thanks

If you don't have carry-on luggage, checking bags at the airport or changing your flight could cost you extra time and money, so it's best to double-check before you leave.

You mentioned that free seat selection is available, which is pretty important since Air Canada Basic fares usually charge for seat selection. However, when it comes to which Air Canada fare brand the X class issued by AV actually corresponds to, neither the official website nor customer service can confirm it. Did you later see the baggage allowance displayed in the trip details in the Air Canada app? Or can you see carry-on baggage options during check-in?

You can check the fare rules for the same flight and same cabin on Air Canada's official website, or ask AV to issue an itinerary that includes baggage information, so it can serve as a reference for others later.

If the system prompts you to add carry-on baggage during check-in, go by what it shows—don't rely solely on what customer service says verbally.

Since AV says it's only a personal item but you get an error when you click through, the safest bet is to check your baggage allowance on Air Canada's website using your ticket number before you leave, or see whether a prompt to add a carry-on pops up when you use the self-service check-in at the airport. If it shows a fee, buying it on the spot may cost more than buying in advance, so it's best to decide ahead of time.

The key is still which tier Air Canada puts X class in—free seat selection doesn't necessarily mean carry-on baggage is included. The baggage notice at actual check-in is the most accurate.

It would be best to double-check whether the "personal item" that AV customer service mentioned includes carry-on luggage.
