Is the Amex Gold 80K Paper NLL Offer Worth Opening?

I just closed my Plat this year, and recently received a paper NLL offer for the Amex Gold: Spend $8,000, get 80K MR. I previously saw a 100K NLL offer on the forum, but that DP was from about a year ago: [Dead] Amex Gold NLL 100k offer credit card We apologize that the offer you are looking for may no longer be available. I wanted to ask everyone: in this situation, is the 80K NLL worth opening directly, or should I wait for a higher offer? What I'm mainly torn about is that paper targeted NLL offers feel pretty random in themselves, and I don't know if something like 100K is very hard to wait for. Has anyone received a Gold paper NLL DP in the past year? Is 80K considered a fairly normal/worth-opening level right now?

Does this paper offer letter have an expiration date on it?

Before you rush to apply, check the letter for a targeted code and an expiration date, and compare it with the highest publicly available offer recently. If your spending pressure is high, even a generous sign-up bonus may not be worth it.

That 100K NLL you mentioned was a DP from a year ago, but you could look at it from a different angle: what's the standard public offer for Gold right now? If the public offer is only 60K or 70K, then 80K NLL is already a pretty solid level. Also, you said you just closed your Plat, so keep in mind Amex's welcome offer restrictions—for example, whether you've already received the Gold bonus, and whether there's pop-up risk. It's best to first confirm whether you're stuck in pop-up jail before deciding whether to use this paper offer to give it a try.

Targeted offers can vary from state to state, so don't rely solely on forums.

80K isn't bad, but whether it's 'worth opening' really depends on whether you can naturally hit the 8K spend—if you have to force it, it may not be worth it.

If you don't have any large purchases planned in the near future, you can set this letter aside for now, check whether your Amex account has any pre-approved offers, or wait and see if a better bonus comes along. Keep in mind, though, that paper offers often have a deadline, and once it passes, they're gone. If you already have necessary spending coming up in the next three months and can naturally hit the 8K, then the 80K NLL is worth considering. Otherwise, spending 8K just to earn the bonus could end up costing you more in time and repayment pressure than the extra 20K is worth.

80K NLL can be opened, but only if you're sure you can get the bonus and naturally meet the spending requirement.
