Normally it's 0.5%. Yesterday I used the cart trick to notify C1S, and the email that came today offered 2%. But if it's 2%, you could just go through Rakuten instead.

In some states, whether cashback platforms count as taxable income can vary, so keep that in mind when filing your taxes.

Is the 2% from the cart trick the norm or just a one-off? Does the email mention an expiration date or a cap? If it's only a temporary promotion, then it's much less reliable compared to Rakuten's regular 2%. Also, does Brooks Brothers often have fluctuating rates on Rakuten too? Without these details clear, it's hard to say which one is more worthwhile.

If you really need to buy soon, compare the cashback rates and exclusions from both sides first, then decide which one to go with. But don't delay a necessary purchase just to wait for a higher cashback rate—after all, a 2% difference isn't that big.
It's true that 2% isn't as good as Rakuten, but C1S sometimes stacks with other offers, like spend-and-save deals at specific merchants, so it depends on the promotion. If there's no extra boost, then it's really not worth the hassle of the shopping cart trick.
