Indian scam gangs reportedly accelerating expansion into Myanmar compounds, shifting targets to the US market On September 13, scam compounds in Myawaddy and Shwe Kokko in Myanmar's Kayin State are undergoing personnel and operational restructuring, with some Indian scam gangs reportedly taking over existing compounds and setting their sights primarily on the US market. These gangs exploit India's English-speaking talent pool and established call center infrastructure, luring people to Thailand through job postings promising "high-paying IT and data entry" positions before transporting them to compounds in Myanmar, where some have their passports confiscated and are forced to carry out scams. The gangs primarily use tactics such as fake cryptocurrency investments, "pig butchering" romance scams, impersonating tech company customer service and US government agencies, and combine AI-generated scripts, deepfakes, remote control software and fake investment platforms to enhance their deceptiveness.
