Should the Neighborhood Pharmacy Make It Onto Your Shortlist in a New Community?
It wasn't until my third week in this city that I realized how little I knew about my own neighborhood. Below my rental, there's a convenience store chain and a scooter repair shop, and past that, an alley that grows quieter the further you walk. Back home, the pharmacy at the mouth of our lane had been open for over twenty years. The owner knew my mom, and I never felt awkward bringing in any prescription slip to ask about. Now there's no place like that. Everything has to be built from scratch.
I started thinking about this because my mom called to ask whether there was anywhere near my place where she could ask questions. She said she'd been going through all the bottles and jars at home and realized many were brought back by relatives from trips abroad. She can't quite read the labels, and she wants to find someone who can explain things clearly before deciding what to do with them....
